"We grow communities, one garden at a time!"
The Racine Urban Garden Network (RUGN) is an organization that promotes urban gardening in Racine, Wisconsin. We offer members the ability to rent gardening plots or establish plots in their neighborhood.
RUGN is one of a few groups in Racine that focuses on urban gardening. Our goal is to continuously provide people in Racine with education and tools to grow their own healthy food.
At our gardens, we provide access to tools, water, soil, compost, and mulch. We also assist gardeners in learning about gardening through garden events and one-on-one advice and assistance.
Our Facebook page offers tips to improve one's urban gardening skills, as well as postings about upcoming RUGN events and Racine-area gardening events.
The Racine Urban Garden Network (RUGN) supports the growth of healthy communities by providing the education and opportunities that Racine citizens need to grow their food.
Since 2009, RUGN has provided resources for over two hundred community gardeners and helped them establish community gardens in their own neighborhood.
Help grow our community! RUGN needs help maintaining our established gardens and setting up new gardens throughout Racine. However, our work doesn't stop with the gardens! We also need help with fundraising, educational programs, and community outreach programs. We have many opportunities for you to join our efforts. We are always looking for volunteers who would like to help in the gardens, both individuals and groups. Our volunteers are a diverse groups, with different backgrounds, experiences and talents.

Help grow our community!
RUGN needs help maintaining our established gardens and setting up new gardens throughout Racine. However, our work doesn’t stop with the gardens! We need help with fundraising, educational programs, and community outreach programs, too.
Getting Gardens Growing Volunteer Crew
Join fellow RUGN gardeners and community members when RUGN needs help the most. Sign-up to join our “Getting Gardens Growing Volunteer Crew”. You will receive notifications of volunteer opportunities that require your help! Help us build new community gardens, install butterfly gardens, paint a new storage shed, or many other fun and rewarding activities.
Group Volunteer Days
You can use your corporate volunteer hours or community service hours to help RUGN continue to cultivate our community! This is a great volunteer service for school groups, clubs, fraternities and sororities. The majority of our volunteer work is completed by groups, so your contribution will make a difference. We can arrange a workday to fit your group’s schedule. If you have a group and want to help us out, let us know!
Committee and Board Membership
RUGN is currently recruiting new board and committee members. If you are interested in more information, please contact us. Being a member of the board or committees means you will have an integral hand in running RUGN.
If you are interested in helping RUGN grow, click on find out more or check our events calendar for upcoming volunteer events.
If you're not interested in having your own plot but see the benefit in providing your community the opportunity, then you or your organization can choose to sponsor a garden location, plot or border.
Garden Location Sponsorships
There are locations throughout the city that are optimal for a community garden! You or your organization can take initiative to turn these unused areas into urban gardens. If you or your organization provide the funding, the RUGN board can take care of the rest! Similarly, the RUGN board can financially assist organizations in establishing their own community gardens (as long as the gardens will be open to the public and you provide a garden manager for the life of the garden).
Garden Plot Sponsorships
Give the gift that keeps giving. If you know someone that loves to garden but may not have the space at home, you can sponsor a garden plot at one of our established garden locations! There is no cost to garden with RUGN, but donating a plot in someone’s name may give them the push they need to start to garden.
Border Sponsorships
Your company or organization can support our established gardens by sponsoring a border. A great way to provide your company or organization with volunteer opportunities and to get your name out in our local, sustainable community.
